VISUAL ARTS

Our Visual Arts program focuses on learning everything about art including history, fine motor skills, style development, and media exploration through hands-on experiences. Classes start in kindergarten and continue through all grade levels. Art mediums include ceramics, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, graphite drawing, and printmaking ink. The program also includes opportunities to showcase artwork through several art shows, locally and through AISA. These art shows begin at the end of March and include a District Art Show in April, followed by a final State Art Show competition.

BAND

Springwood’s Band Program teaches the fundamentals of music by instructing students on the technique of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Our study of music involves
fundamentals, skills, and a growing appreciation for its aesthetic qualities. Students learn about various genres of music, musicians, and their contributions to mankind while also being educated on the music of Western civilization from early church music to the present. As a result, all students should be able to participate as performers and listeners. Our curriculum is developed with an appreciation of different music styles that recognize and respond to the cultural needs of the students and the community. Our students will perform at various school functions such as assembly programs, football games, and recitals.

Fourth-Grade Recorder Band
The fourth-grade recorder band covers the fundamentals of music including music notation,
different forms of music, and music history. Students will learn the fundamentals of playing and performing on the recorder and sight-reading instrumental music.

Fifth-Grade Band
The fifth-grade band curriculum is an entry-level course that covers skills in music notation,
musical instruments, forms of music, and music history. Students learn how to use music as an opportunity for self-expression.

Sixth-Grade Band
The sixth-grade band curriculum is an advanced course where students use music for self-
expression. Students at this level are strengthening their comprehension of different musical forms in preparation for solo and group performances.

Seventh through Twelfth Grade Band
The seventh through twelfth-grade band classes will cover the fundamentals of music by instructing students on techniques. This will help students become selective in their choice of brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments.

MUSIC

At Springwood School, the music program is a vibrant part of our Fine Arts Department, offering students a creative and engaging way to explore their musical talents. Classes are held twice a week for Pre-K through 6th grade, focusing on foundational music concepts through interactive activities and a variety of instruments including handbells, Boomwhackers, rhythm sticks, and tambourines. For middle and high school students, music is offered as an elective, allowing them to further develop their skills and passion.

Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to showcase their vocal talents during performances at our Christmas program and the End-of-Year celebration.  Whether learning rhythm, melody, or performance techniques, Springwood's music classes inspire students to express themselves through the universal language of music.
